Vital Information That Can Improve One’s Knowledge on CPT Codes

Meet Dr. Dixon

Medical facilities have improved with the passing year. Latest technologies have not only made medication and treatment advanced, allowing patients to recover at a very fast pace, it has also made the post-therapy process also quite easier, making people’s day to day life quite easy. Making up of bills and keeping records of medical supplies are quite easier to achieve with the help of computers and the internet.

What is Echocardiogram?

Echocardiogram is the process of using sound waves in order to generate images of the heart. It is commonly known as ECG among the common people. When one conducts the process of echocardiogram, he/she has to know several codes while recording heartbeats. These codes are known as CPT Codes of Echocardiogram.

What are CPT Codes?

The full form of CPT is Current Procedural Terminology. This set of codes is maintained by the American Medical Association. It is a medical set code usually used in the process of Echocardiogram. This set of codes usually describes medical information related to surgeries, medical and diagnostic services. It is mainly used by medical representatives to communicate information related to the medicine world.

Some different types of CPT Codes

CPT codes are mainly divided into three categories: Category I, II and III. Furthermore, Category I is divided into six sections which deal with codes about medicines, Category II deals with codes that describe components that are used in clinical services while Category III deals with codes related to new technologies. Some of the codes which are used in Echocardiogram are:

  • CPT Code 93303:

This code is all about the process of transthoracic echocardiography which is mainly used for congenital cardiac abnormality. This process includes 2D representation of the heart and M-mode recording. It is processed through spectral and colour Doppler.

  • CPT Code 93306:

This code represents the complete process of echocardiogram and the different technologies used in it. This process also includes 2D representation of the heart and M-mode recording. It is also processed through spectral and colour Doppler. However, it is processed in real-time, unlike the above one.

Even though the concept of CPT codes is quite a complicated one and it takes nearly five to six years to understand and remember all these quotes by heart. However, with the help of these codes, medical facilities have quite improved and will continue to develop in the upcoming years.
